Hi,

I had to restart an ASE server last night & suddenly it is
not recognizing the license file and putting me in DEV mode.
This license is valid & has worked for the last 2 years. No
changes to directories or server. Any ideas?

Thx,

Post all of the lines from the errorlog showing license info; this is typically the first 10-30 lines generated at
dataserver startup and usually come before the @@version string and Sybase copyright stuff. Go ahead and provide the
@@version string, too.

Ideally I'd like to see this startup license info for 2 scenarios:

1 - the last time the dataserver started up successfully with the license file

2 - the *first* time the dataserver started up and failed to recognize your license file

------------

Log into the dataserver and run sp_lmconfig; post the entire output back here to the newsgroup.

------------

Go to $SYBASE/ASE-15_0/sysam and see if you have a file named <dataserver_name>.properties (eg, for a dataserver named
'MYSERVER' there should be a file named MYSERVER.properies). Post all lines that do not include hex code (eg, lines
starting with 'PE=', 'LT='). This should match what's showing up in sp_lmconfig, but we need to make sure.

------------

Ideally it would be good to see the contents of the actual license file, though it's probably not a good idea to post
actual hex codes and/or company name. What I'm looking for are license file entries for the dataserver (eg, "INCREMENT
ASE_EE") and the associated "PE=" and "LT=" strings.

If the dataserver is logging into a license server then you'll need to go to the license server and look at the license
file(s) it is using. It would also be a good idea to look at the SYSAM server's log files for messages that are being
generated at the same time that the dataserver is botting up (ie, the SYSAM server messages may also help track down the
issue).

For some reason there was a dev license in the license
directory along with the standard license. It seems that the
dev license was getting used by mistake. Renamed dev license
and it started correctly.
